Marriott Explore Rate changes 2026: what actually changed

Updated August 14, 2026

In early 2026 Marriott quietly relaunched the Explore program. The paper authorization form is gone, verification now lives inside your Marriott Bonvoy account, and the familiar rate codes — MMP, MMF, MM4, QCC — got clearer roles. Here is what changed, who qualifies, and what it means for actually finding a bookable rate.

The authorization form is gone — verification lives in your Bonvoy account now

Under the old system, an associate generated an Explore Authorization Form for each trip — a PDF valid for roughly two months that you printed and handed over at check-in. Forget the form, and the hotel could recharge you the full public rate.

As of the 2026 relaunch (the form cutoff landed around April 15, 2026), verification is digital and one-time. The sponsoring associate links your Marriott Bonvoy account to the Explore program, and from then on your own account carries verified special-rate status — visible in the Bonvoy app. You book the rate on Marriott.com like any other rate and check in with no paperwork.

The 2026 rate codes: MMP, MMF, MM4, and QCC

MMP is the Explore Rate for associates and their immediate family — the deep discount everyone hunts for. MMF is the Explore Friends rate for extended family and friends: much wider eligibility, shallower discount. MM4 ("Explore More") is a seasonal employee-only window, roughly mid-November to mid-January. QCC is the Quarter Century Club rate for associates with 25+ years of service, who keep Explore access even after leaving the company.

Some 2026 coverage also describes a separate associate-only tier, but Marriott has not documented it publicly. What has not changed: each hotel controls which codes it opens on any given night, which is why the same property can show MMF but not MMP — or neither. For a deeper comparison, see our MMP vs MMF guide.

Who qualifies — including the different-last-name question

MMP eligibility is defined by relationship, not by surname: spouse or domestic partner, children, parents, in-laws, and siblings all qualify as immediate family. A sibling who has a different last name qualifies exactly the same way — what matters under the new system is that the associate sponsors the digital link to the traveler's own Bonvoy account before booking.

Everyone outside that immediate-family list — friends, cousins, coworkers — is MMF territory, which any associate can extend without a relationship requirement.

How big is the discount, really?

Published numbers vary, and so does reality by property and date. In practice, MMP commonly lands 50–80% below the public rate when it appears, while MMF is typically a 20–30% discount. That gap is why people hunt MMP first and fall back to MMF when it is not offered.

Both rate types earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits, so a deeply discounted stay still moves you toward status.

What the relaunch does not change: finding availability is still the hard part

Verification got easier, but inventory did not get bigger. Hotels still decide night by night whether the Explore Rate opens up at all, and the good rates at aspirational properties still appear and vanish within days. The 2026 changes remove the paperwork — not the timing problem.

The practical approach is unchanged: decide the price that would make you book, and let ExploreDrop watch for the MMP rate to reach your number instead of refreshing the calendar yourself. When it hits, you book directly on Marriott.com with your verified account.

Common questions

Do you have to work for Marriott to use the Explore Rate?⌄

No. Associates use it directly, but immediate family members (spouse or partner, children, parents, in-laws, siblings) qualify for MMP, and friends can use the MMF rate. Every booking traces back to a sponsoring associate.

MMP vs MMF — is there a big difference?⌄

Usually, yes. MMP is the deeper discount, often 50–80% below the public rate when it appears; MMF is typically closer to a 20–30% discount. Exact prices vary by hotel and date.

My sibling has a different last name — can they still authorize me?⌄

Yes. Eligibility is based on the relationship, not the surname. Under the 2026 system the associate links your Bonvoy account digitally, so the name on the reservation just needs to match your own Bonvoy profile.

Marriott got rid of the authorization forms — how does verification work now?⌄

Since the 2026 relaunch, verification is digital and one-time: the associate sponsors a link between the Explore program and your Marriott Bonvoy account. Once your account shows verified status, you book the rate on Marriott.com and check in with no paperwork.
