The employee discount is the Explore program

Marriott's associate discount is not a single rate. It is a small family of special rate codes under the Explore program. MMP is the Explore Rate for associates and their immediate family, and it is the deep one: when it appears, it commonly lands 50–80% below the public rate. MMF is the Explore Friends rate that associates can extend to friends and extended family, typically closer to a 20–30% discount.

Booking is paperless now: verification lives in your Bonvoy account

Older colleagues may mention printing authorization forms for each trip. That system is gone. Since the 2026 relaunch, verification is digital and one-time: your Marriott Bonvoy account carries verified Explore status, visible in the Bonvoy app. You search and book the rate on Marriott.com like any other rate and check in with no paperwork.

Explore stays still earn points and elite nights

A common new-associate question with a happy answer: yes, Explore Rate stays earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits. A deeply discounted stay still moves you toward status, which makes the perk compound nicely if you travel often.

The real skill is finding an open rate

Here is the part nobody explains in onboarding: having the discount does not mean every hotel shows it. Each hotel controls which Explore codes it opens on any given night, based on occupancy and demand. City hotels on a quiet midweek often show it; the aspirational resorts open it in pockets that appear and vanish within days.

The habits that work: search the monthly calendar view instead of one fixed date pair, stay flexible on dates when you can, expect the rate to open on entry-level rooms, and book quickly when you see it, since most Explore bookings can be cancelled later if plans change.
