What is the Marriott Explore Rate? The 2026 guide for associates and their families
Updated October 12, 2026
The Marriott Explore Rate is the discounted room rate Marriott offers its associates and the people they authorize, run as a program called Explore by Marriott Bonvoy. It is not one rate but a small family of codes, each with its own eligibility and discount. This page is the map: what the program is, which codes exist, who qualifies, how verification works in 2026, and how to find an open rate. The linked guides go deeper on each part.
What Explore by Marriott Bonvoy is
Explore by Marriott Bonvoy is the travel program behind what most people call the Marriott Explore Rate or the Marriott employee discount. It is run by Marriott, and it works through special rate codes rather than a coupon. There is no public code you can find online and paste into a checkout: an Explore code only works for a traveler whose own Marriott Bonvoy account has been verified for the program.
Booking looks like any other Marriott stay. You search and book on Marriott.com or in the Bonvoy app, and when the hotel has opened an Explore code for your nights, the discounted rate shows up next to the public one. Marriott's Explore portal lives at explorerate.marriott.com and asks for a Bonvoy sign-in.
The Explore rate codes: MMP, MMF, MMA, MM4 and QCC
MMP is the Explore Family Rate for associates and their immediate family, and it is the deep discount most people are hunting for.
MMF is the Explore Friends Rate for friends and extended family. Any associate can extend it.
MMA is an associate-only code for stays where the associate is the traveler. Marriott has not published its discount.
MM4, known as "Explore More", is a seasonal window for associates only, roughly mid-November to mid-January.
QCC is the Quarter Century Club rate for associates with 25 or more years of service, who keep Explore access after leaving Marriott.
For all five side by side, see the MMP vs MMF rate code table. The two codes most travelers use each have their own guide: the Marriott MMP rate explained and the Marriott friends and family code (MMF).
Who qualifies for the Explore Rate
Associates qualify directly. Their immediate family qualifies for MMP: a spouse or domestic partner, children, parents, in-laws, and siblings. Eligibility is set by the relationship, not the surname, so an in-law or sibling with a different last name qualifies the same way. Friends and extended family, such as cousins or a coworker, can use MMF when an associate extends it. Quarter Century Club members keep their access after they leave Marriott.
Every Explore booking traces back to an associate. For how sponsoring relatives works, read the guide to sharing the Explore Rate with family members. If you are the associate, the Marriott employee discount guide covers the program from your side.
How verification works in 2026
The paper authorization form was retired on April 15, 2026. Verification is now a one-time digital link in the traveler's own Marriott Bonvoy account, sponsored by the associate. Once the account shows verified status, the traveler books the rate on Marriott.com and checks in with no paperwork.
That means every traveler needs their own Bonvoy account, and the name on the reservation should match their own profile. The full walkthrough of the relaunch is in the Marriott Explore Rate changes 2026 guide.
The rules that matter
Three rules shape almost every Explore trip. First, MMP is limited to one room per night since April 15, 2026. Plan a family trip around that limit before you book, because Marriott has not published an exception to it.
Second, MMP and MMF stays earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits, so a discounted stay still counts toward status.
Third, hotels open the codes night by night. Having access does not mean a hotel shows the rate on your dates. The same property can show MMF but not MMP, or neither, and the mix can change the next day.
How much the Explore Rate saves
MMP is the deep one: it commonly lands 50–80% below the public rate when a hotel opens it. MMF is shallower, typically 20–30%. Marriott has not published the discount for MMA, MM4 or QCC, and this guide does not guess. Exact savings vary by hotel and by night.
A low price is not the same as a good deal. The useful measure is the gap between the Explore rate and the public rate at the same hotel on the same night. The guide to the best Marriott Explore Rate hotels shows how to judge that gap.
How to find an open Explore rate
Finding an open night is the real skill. Start with the monthly calendar instead of one fixed date pair, as the guide to finding Explore Rate availability explains. If your trip can move, the flexible dates guide shows how to search for the outcome rather than one itinerary. And when a rate you saw this morning is gone by lunch, read why Explore Rates disappear and come back.
ExploreDrop watches the MMP rate at the hotels you pick and emails you when it drops below your target price. It does not grant access to any Explore code, and you still book directly on Marriott.com with your verified account.
