Marriott MMP rate explained: who qualifies, how much it saves, and the one-room rule
Updated October 12, 2026
MMP is the Marriott rate code people mean when they talk about the deep Explore discount. It is the Explore Family Rate for associates and their immediate family, and when a hotel opens it, it can cut the public price by more than half. Here is what the code is, who can book it, how much it usually saves, the rules that changed in April 2026, and why it shows at one hotel and not another.
What MMP is
MMP is a special rate code under Explore by Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott's travel program for associates and the people they authorize. In the Bonvoy app it shows up as "Explore Family Rate (MMP)". It is not a coupon: the code only works for a traveler whose own Marriott Bonvoy account has been verified for the program.
MMP sits alongside four other Explore codes (MMF, MMA, MM4 and QCC). For the whole program on one page, start with what the Marriott Explore Rate is.
Who can book MMP
MMP is for associates and their immediate family. Immediate family means a spouse or domestic partner, children, parents, in-laws, and siblings. Eligibility is set by the relationship, not the surname, so a sibling or parent with a different last name qualifies the same way.
Friends, cousins and coworkers are outside that list. They can use MMF, the Explore Friends Rate, when an associate extends it. For how an associate sponsors relatives, see the guide to sharing the Explore Rate with family members.
How much MMP saves
When a hotel opens it, MMP commonly lands 50–80% below the public rate. That range is wide on purpose: MMP is not a fixed percentage off. The discount varies by hotel and by night, so the same property can be a bargain one week and an ordinary price the next.
The way to judge an MMP price is against the public rate for the same room and night, not against other hotels. A modest MMP price at a hotel with a high public rate can be a far better find than a cheap one at a hotel that is inexpensive anyway. The guide to the best Marriott Explore Rate hotels walks through that comparison.
The one-room rule and the other rules
Since April 15, 2026, MMP is limited to one room per night. That is the rule most likely to change how a family plans a trip, so check the room count before you count on the rate.
Verification changed on the same date. The paper authorization form was retired, and verification is now a one-time digital link in the traveler's own Marriott Bonvoy account, sponsored by the associate. There is nothing to print and nothing to show at check-in.
MMP stays earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits on the account of the person staying, so a discounted stay still counts toward status.
How to book with MMP
Search the hotel on Marriott.com or in the Bonvoy app as you would for any stay, and enter MMP in the corporate or promo code field. If the hotel has opened MMP for your nights and your Bonvoy account is verified, the Explore Family Rate shows next to the public rates. Book it like any other rate. When a good MMP night appears, book it quickly: most Explore bookings can be cancelled later if plans change, and the rate may not be there tomorrow.
If the rate does not appear, check verification first. The steps for the digital link are in the Marriott Explore Rate changes 2026 guide. If your account is verified and the rate still is not there, the hotel most likely has not opened MMP for those nights.
Why MMP shows at one hotel and not another, and how to catch it
Each hotel opens MMP night by night. A city hotel on a quiet midweek may show it, while a popular resort opens it in short pockets that appear and vanish within days. The same property can show MMF but not MMP on a given night, and the mix can change tomorrow. The guide to why Explore Rates disappear explains the movement.
Two habits help: search the monthly calendar rather than one date pair, as the guide to finding Explore Rate availability describes, and keep your dates loose with the flexible dates approach. Or let ExploreDrop do the watching: it tracks MMP at the hotels you pick and emails you when a night opens below your target price. You still book on Marriott.com.
