Marriott friends and family code (MMF): how the Explore Friends Rate works
Updated October 12, 2026
If someone told you they can get you the Marriott friends and family rate, they mean MMF, the Explore Friends Rate. It is part of Explore by Marriott Bonvoy, the travel program for Marriott associates, and it is the code associates can share most widely. Here is who qualifies, how an associate extends it, how much it usually saves, and how it compares to MMP.
The code is MMF, and it is not a coupon
There is no public Marriott friends and family code. MMF only works when a Marriott associate extends it to you and your own Marriott Bonvoy account is verified for the Explore program. Typing MMF into a search without that verification will not unlock the rate.
Pages that sell Marriott friends and family "codes" are selling access, not a code. The rate itself comes from an associate.
MMF is one of five codes under Explore by Marriott Bonvoy, the travel program for Marriott associates and the people they authorize. The others are MMP, MMA, MM4 and QCC. For how the whole program fits together, start with what the Marriott Explore Rate is.
Who qualifies for MMF
MMF is for friends and extended family, such as cousins or a coworker. There is no relationship requirement, and any associate can extend it. That makes it the widest of the Explore codes.
Immediate family usually gets MMP instead: a spouse or domestic partner, children, parents, in-laws, and siblings qualify for the deeper Explore Family Rate. If you are in that group, read the guide to sharing the Explore Rate with family members before settling for MMF.
How much MMF saves
MMF is typically 20–30% below the public rate. Like every Explore code, the exact discount varies by hotel and by night, and a hotel decides night by night whether to open it at all.
MMF stays earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits, so the stay still counts toward status on the traveler's own account.
Because hotels open the code night by night, the same property can show MMF one week and not the next. The habits that help with any Explore code apply here too: search the monthly calendar instead of one fixed date pair, as the guide to finding Explore Rate availability explains, and expect a rate you saw to vanish and come back, which the guide to why Explore Rates disappear covers.
How to book with MMF
Once your account is verified, search the hotel on Marriott.com or in the Bonvoy app and enter MMF in the corporate or promo code field. If the hotel has opened MMF for your nights, the Explore Friends Rate shows next to the public rates, and you book it like any other rate.
Since April 15, 2026, there is no paper authorization form. Verification is a one-time digital link in the traveler's own Bonvoy account, sponsored by the associate, and you check in with no paperwork. The Marriott Explore Rate changes 2026 guide covers how that works.
MMF vs MMP
MMP is the deeper discount, commonly 50–80% below the public rate, but it is limited to associates and immediate family, and to one room per night since April 15, 2026. MMF is shallower, typically 20–30%, but open to friends and extended family. For immediate family, MMF is the fallback when a hotel has not opened MMP on the nights they need.
The two codes do not always appear together. On a given night a hotel may open MMF but not MMP, or neither, and the mix can change the next day. Both earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits, so either one still counts toward status.
The MMP vs MMF rate code table lines up all five Explore codes, and the Marriott MMP rate guide covers the family rate in detail.
ExploreDrop and MMF
ExploreDrop tracks MMP only today. MMF is not tracked yet. ExploreDrop does not grant access to any Explore code either: it watches rates for people who can already book them, and booking happens on Marriott.com.
For MMP, it works like this: you pick the hotels and the dates or a flexible window, set the price that would make you book, and ExploreDrop emails you when a night opens below that target. If you also qualify for MMP, that already covers the deeper of the two rates.
If you would use MMF tracking, join the list below. When that changes, it will be announced there first. Until then you get one short email a week with the steepest Explore finds.
